In Reply to: Problems with hatchling…….. posted by jumbo on April 21, 2003 at 09:58:03:

:As some of you might recall I had a female laying only 1 egg (the others were stuck).

:That egg hatched a couple of days ago, but I don’t think the hatchling will make it. First off all I think it is blind or has some problems with the eyes. They are closed and the eyelids are black.

:I also have problems feeding it. It will not take any food that I am offering and I can’t get it to open its mouth.

:Further it is very inactive and just sits on a rock, most of the time with the head resting on the rock. It seems as it hasn’t the strength to support the head for longer time.

:If any of you have experienced something like this or have any suggestions what to do please let me know.

Chuckwalla baby, mans incubator was turned off by accident, and this baby was born, crippled, he was shipped to me at 6 days old was not eating , limbs folded up like a seal. Anyway your guy sounds as though he certainly has problems, very weakened condition besides the eye problem, In order to feed the chuck baby I ground up all everything in blender plus calcuim powder and made a liquified mixture and used an eye dropper and fed about 3-4 times a day. For the collared I would grind crickets, mealies, calcium, can use a baby food in jar something like chicken and veggie or beef and use some petiylite electolite stuff you buy in human baby section and squeeze drops in him the same way ! I would worry about the eyes later !!! He needs to be strenghtened ! Hope he makes it, keep us informed I feel bad for the little guy !!! Eve
