tongue not working

i've had a veiled chameleon for about a year now. probably 2 months after i got him he was suffering from mbd which he recovered from very nicely. ever since he hasn't been able to flick his tongue out very far at all. i just figured it was something that interrupted the growing pattern. i asked several people about this and they agreed. recently i read something about edema and it said something about swelling of the throat and neck. can anyone give me any ideas?
