i live in sunny california and i like many other people keep there chams in outdoor cages all year round i used a 20' wide,20'long and 12'high aviary type thing that was abandoned at a friends house. i switched out the old bird mesh with the half inch hardware clothe. I added a mist system that i hooked up to the sprinkler system and had a valve that u cold switch form sraying cold water in the summer to hot water in the winter. in the coldest part of winter i placed plastic sheeting over the cage so that it ould act like a green house. At its coldest were i live the temp will drop to around 48-50 degrees F. A thermistat turned on ceramic heating elements and i had a 50gallon barrel of hot water, like they have in green houses to maintain temp. he lived out there five years. you just need to get a log book and document everthing you cham does so you can quickly notice changes. cause in the big cage i would go weeks with out seeing him, directly. my only observation was a record that every day he ate what i provided and if there was a change i new to find him.
