In Reply to: My new panther eating... posted by mheatrule on April 18, 2003 at 13:07:45:
Hi- My Sambava panther went throught this stage in his life too, I call it the terrible 2's. Mealworms and supperworms are not a good staple food and should only be feed as a treat. They have a very tough exoskeleton which is hard to digest, and too much fat amoung other things. The link below will show you more info on bug nutrition. The way I got around this was to take a cricket and cut all it legs off so that it looks like a worm and place it on a leaf near the chameleon. I also used silkworms and he would eat both up, and soon after would eat the crickets free roaming and silkwoms anywhere I put them, and right out of my hand! You can get silkworms in small amounts on ebay or lagre orders from mulberryfarms.com Hope this helps!

:I just got a new panther. The thing is, he isnt eating crickets, he only is eating meal worms, and he will only eat them when they are crawling on the screen of his cage. The thing is that the only kind of worms that my local pet store sells are meal worms and super worms. I have heard that super worms arent good for chameleons. So he has just been feeding on meal worms. This is not a 100% healthy diet, right? Do I need to be feeding him some other worms? Silk? Butter?
:Thanks
