One thing I've noticed from different keepers is that the carolina subspecies do not seem to tolerate drier conditions as well as the ornatas (with three-toeds probably being the best that I've seen), but that ornates (possibly not leutolas, I'm not sure) tolerate well the pens and conditions that the carolinas enjoy. So I would guess that regardless of where they are found, ornates could be housed in the same manner you would an eastern (which should include access to open spots to sun in).
