Can box turtles be kept safely outdoors in the Phoenix area year round? My main concern is the mid summer heat. I can give them a shady area but want to make sure that they dont end up dying or getting sick from too much heat. They are desert boxies from the desert in New Mexico, but it gets about 15 degrees warmer in Phoenix than it does where they originate from and I am sure that they can find better places to take refuge in the wild than they would be able to find in a 4foot by 8foot outdoor enclosure.
