I'm in SoCal inland. Temperatures reach 120F on occasion but the high is usually around 90F or so. That is all the shade but night time temperatures drop to the 50s and 60s and the grass pile is kept wet so the temperatures under the leaf litter and grass is cool.
I have very poor drainage but it don't rain a whole lot but it does get watered everyday.
