Ed, where in the country do you live? I'm in NC, and the heat here can be really oppressive. I provide as much shade as I can, but I still spend as much time in the middle of summer anxious about the heat bothering them as I do in the winter waiting for spring (but then with cold, thaws with lots of rain worries about drainage and such...).

Are the only shade spots under the grass tussock and burrowed in the pile of clippings? What temps are the "heat of summer" for you?
