Hello Brett. I think that you would put an undertank heater and basking light on one side, and none on the other, so that the lizard can thermoregulate and go where its body temp is comfortable. You should double check at forum.kingsnake.com/caging, its the caging forum and i'm sure you will get lots of help there.
