Hi, I'm not sure about western bandeds but I assume they're similar to leopards since they are both eublepharids and even some non-eublepharid geckos can be sexed in a similar manner. Adult leos can be sexed by looking at the underside of the gecko near the vent. Males will have paired hemipenal swellings at the base of the tail just under the vent and will also have a V-shaped row of enlarged pre-anal pores just before the vent. Females will not have the hemipenal bulges at the base of the tail and the pre-anal pores are not as pronounced. You can find good instructions and pics for breeding and care in "The Leopard Gecko Manual" and they also have some info about AFT (african fat-tailed) geckos and a little info about the american banded geckos. It shouldn't be too hard to find a copy, you can check www.reptilebooksetc.com or a pet store that carries reptile supplies.
