Really Want a HERP help!!

Hey everyone....could someone shed some light on some great beginner herps. I really want to get into them and everything i have found seems to be too skittish (Chilean Dwarf Tegu) or too large like the monitors. I would like to keep it under 3 feet. I have been doing a lot of research on all sorts of herps....Also not many stores around here have nice ones so i am prolly going to have to ship one.....Is that ok? I really need some good sturdy advice. Thanks!!
