Bearded dragons get 2 feet long and require special lighting and diet (part veggies, part crix). However, I've seen incredibly docile adults. Leopard geckos are great kid pets too. For snakes I'd say a corn snake or other small ratsnake, a hognose snake, or a dwarf boa (rosy, rubber, kenyan sand). These can all eat frozen mice. This can be a lot of fun, you and your daughter could get some books out of the library and do some research and decide what you like. The internet is a nice tool too, try www.caresheets.com for quick info.
