It happens.....
I have many adults that will take frozen prey for several months and then won't touch them for another few months. Nothing within their environment ever really changes so it's hard to account for the behavior. Because they regularly fast for long periods of time, I usually don't worry about it. If I get concerned I'll use fresh killed prey which is a good trade off and meets an the immediate need, but it's definite less convenient. I think you may find that they go on and off of various prey items during the year. But some never vary in their habits at all.
It's amazing how little consistency there is between individual animals. They all have their idiosyncracies.
