10 Gallon Tank Heating

Guys/Gals I have a question. What would be the best way to properly heat a 10 gallon aquarium for a ball python. Should I use a thermostat. My local petshop says that BP's must have both a heat light and a UTH even in a 10 gallon... Im a lil lost.
