Hi,

Its important to have a temperature gradient for all cold blooded animals so that they can regulate their body temperature properly. Dart frogs don't need a large gradient because in the wild they tend to stay near the ground (well, most of the common species availible to hobbyists) and as far as I know don't normally venture off, or are unable to venture off, to areas where there is a large temperature change. In most terrariums there is still a temperature gradient provided by the lighting. In one of my terrariums it will get to 85 up a few inches from the lights but down near the ground its only in the mid 70's. This is one advantage of having a taller terrarium. Good luck!

:With darts, is it really important to have a variety of temperatures? Sorry, I'm a snake person, I don't know these things. It's just that all the caresheets I've read don't mentiona gradient at all.
