Before I usually go away I put a few cultures of flies in my tank with plastic screen stuff that has 1/4 inch squares so the flies can get out, have springtail cultures in the tank too. I have also heard of people taking soil and the substrate that crickets have laid eggs in in a cup and putting that in the tank. I also feed them a lot before I go.
