Alternas, coleonyx , sceloperus

Hi everyone,
I decided to stop lurking & actually say something.
I'm really into the "mexicana complex" kings & would love to go herping for an alterna.My problem is my night vision SUCKS.. Wish I could go to Mexico to check out their alternas & thayeri but I guess that's only a pipedream.
What are the odds of seeing an alterna during the day (hey other than in someone's collection ok?) & under what conditions,time of year etc.
I also am interested in coleonyx & the west Texas types of sceloperus. Can anybody give me a general idea of where to look?
I really enjoy the posts here & the field collecting forum. Hope I can contribute something worth reading soon
