they are not as small as mentioned above. Southerns , Elgaria multicarinata ssp, regularly reach 16-18" and Texas Alligators, Gerrhonotus liocephalus infernalis, get even larger. Madreans, Elgaria kingi, Northerns, E. coeruleus, and Panamints, E. panamintina, however, are smaller. I have never found them difficult to keep in captivity, either indoors or outdoors.
