First off in order to import any C.I.T.E.S. listed animals you MUST have an Import/Export License. A person may import non-C.I.T.E.S. animals without a license. Second any shipments that come into the Us (whether they contain C.I.T.E.S. or are only non-C.I.T.E.S.) MUST be inspected by the US Fish & Wildlife and cleared through Customs. This can be accomplished at many different port's of Entry in the US. Yes the exporter needs to supply the C.I.T.E.S. paperwork, but you will have paperwork on your end to fill out as well. Their will be cost involved i.e. Freight, USFWS inspection fees, Brokerage fees (Broker is required on any shipment valued at $2500us or more) and depending on where the inspecting port is you might have to have the shipment forwarded to you(which will require more freight charges) And no any shipment can not be send directly to your door until it has completely been cleared.
