Identify this Northern Alabama snake

I found a young snake nestled underneath a rock in our flower garden. It is light brown with dark brown markings along its sides. It has a long pointed and skinny tail. I am no expert at identifying snakes. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

I am new to this site and don't know just yet how to upload pictures. If I find out how to do this I will also post a picture of it. Thanks in advance for your help!
