I have often fed worms labeled as 'Red Wrigglers" to worm eating frogs and snakes with no ill effects, and have been doing so for many years. I have heard that some worms can be toxic, but have never before heard that about red wrigglers. That is why I have always purchased my red wrigglers bait stores and not looked under boards for them (I have caught larger earthworms in my garden). I always figured that store bought red wriggler worms would assure getting the same suitable species time after time, whereas catching them could inadvertently lead to picking up the wrong type since I am no wiz when it comes to identifying wild caught worms.
Please let me know where you got that info about red wrigglers being toxic to snakes or other herps. I would like to research your sources to expand my knowledge base on this subject. Thanks
