: Found a very docile 4-5 foot Black Snake in yard. Atlanta,GA.
: The Snake was almost solid black with very dimly shown diamond markings on each side. The underside was light gray with sparse black markings. Was this a King Snake? The nose was kind of pointed. Very shiny black. Let it go in the woods.

Sounds like you found a Black Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta). Eat mice and rats, etc. Cool snakes. Usually pretty irritable when first caught, so you lucked out! Hope that helps, KW
