Black Snake

Found a very docile 4-5 foot Black Snake in yard. Atlanta,GA.
The Snake was almost solid black with very dimly shown diamond markings on each side. The underside was light gray with sparse black markings. Was this a King Snake? The nose was kind of pointed. Very shiny black. Let it go in the woods.
