It's all relative - I too have no problems using Midwest hooks (on mambas or anything else), and also agree that Furmont makes an excellent hook, but really the bottom line is that it doesn't matter what tool one uses to accomplish the job - as long as it gets it done safely & comfortably. If Frank feels better with Furmont, then that's his choice - he's the one working his animal.
I like to maintain as wide a variety of tools as possible - including homemade - and use whatever fits the particular situation at hand. With all the excellent products that both Midwest (the best tongs & baggers) & Furmont (hooks) produce, still one of my favorite hooks to use is my funky, but trusty, old homemade 36" L-hook which sees alot of use due to it's fast action with arboreal or squirrelly snakes (but I personally wouldn't recommend an L-hook to novices with aggressive snakes).
Personal taste is subjective - but I would be suspicious of only using a 'bushy-stick' for handling ease. ;-)
