Dispite my joshing, I am a big fan of nature.
Humans will use nature any way they can, and we don't even know all the effects it may have on the quality of life everywhere.
But, as I've stated before-- what are the minority of us to do?
Voting-- great. Politics have NOTHING to do with conservation, and have EVERYTHING to do with MONEY.
Greenpeace, PETA, save the trees, etc...? Organized religion. Extremists with a personal agenda. No balance.
To save the forest means to change a culture, and offer alternatives to that culture. Americans are so naive to assume that it's OK and possible to change the people in other countries to suit our feelings as outsiders. Who made us the saviors of the planet?
Look at our country. Built on technology, and garbage, too many people in too small of an area... and what do we do? Cover more area with cement and garbage, and build more to make room for more people who don't end up buying the new houses.
Show me that we can fix our own yard before you send my money to another country to change their people.
Or, win Powerball, and buy all the rainforest you want. I'm going to invest in Costa Rica (and yes, I'm serious-- I've looked into it already).
Good luck-- but don't buy any trees.
