: I have helped someone out with venomous snakes for almost a year and a half now and finally have the confidence to start. What is the best species to start out with? I have heard that the Puff Adder, Gaboon Viper, W. Diamondback or Copperhead are some of the best. What do you think?

The best species to start with would be a copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix).I would say the other's are some of the worst "hot" snake's a beginner could choose. They all could give well over their lethal dose.Copperhead's are cheap,nice-looking,hardy,and have a milder venom. At the last Hamburgh show,a guy had hatchling Southerns for ten bucks!

Goodluck!
(and be carefull!)
