How wonderful! How old are they?
I have a redfoot (Elvis) and yellow foot (Thigboot), and they did the same thing, one took off and started expoloring, the other one came up and snuggled up next to me like "mommy protect me from the big bad world!" I found mine like a lot of cover, tall grass they can burrow through and draping plants. I put some grass seed out and let it get tall before I let them out, they seemed to like being in the sun, but not in the open, with lots of tender grass they can much on. They also REALLY liked babies tiers, a ground cover that has little blue star flowers. I also have shade under a bush with impatiens (they LOVE impations!)to make them feel secure. Remember, they're forest creatures, so the more they crawl through the more secure they feel. Elvis took on the neighbor's cat last time he was out and chased him out of his flower bed! (with me hovering to make sure the cat didn't get him that is! pretty funny though to see a 2" tortiose charge a 2' cat! The cat didn't know WHAT to think!)
