The redfoots went outside today

This afternoon I put my 2 redfoots, Dudley & Sal, in the tortoise corral in the front yard. Dudley's been outside a few times & never seemed to enjoy it but this was the 1st time they've both been outside together.

As soon as I put him down, Dudley started pacing around the edge of the corral, as though the wide open space was freaking him out. Sal just sat there for a few minutes then started nibbling a plantain leaf that was right next to him. He moved on to clover, thistle, back to plantain, then gobbled down a weed I don't know the name of.

Dudley came blundering past & saw what Sal was doing & like magic, he stopped pacing & started feasting on the food at hand. He seems particularly fond of crabgrass, but only the newest leaves.

After about an hour I scooped them up & took them back inside. They went straight to the den & settled down for the evening. What a big day they had!
