there will be a privacy fence, 6 or 7 feet tall, around the "eden" area. It will have a foot deep barrier beneath it into the ground to prevent digouts (deeper than I've ever had in this area, and haven't had digouts). This area is surrounded further by another fence, which contains my dogs (excellent at deterring animals from wandering onto property, both actively and through their scent from bathroom activities). Juvenile pens will have lids to prevent bird predation. Each pen will also go a foot into the ground, not because I think the juveniles could dig out, but to keep adults from getting in (though no turtle I've ever kept has come to a solid wall and tried to go under it). The tortoise pen would be built with wood as a juvenile, to make containment easier, and lidding. At 4 inches I'd add a concrete walled pen, sunk into the ground, to be the new home.

So far my dogs visits in the yard where we live now have kept out all animals but one stray cat (which almost got eaten by the dogs and has since avoided our yard completely) That, and the double fencing will be the defence. If needed I'll add some electric strands around the privacy fence as well.
