: : : How can I tell the age and sex of my Bells Hingeback?
: : : I have you can tell thier sex by a plastron but I have no
: : : idea what that is! Also, does anyone know where this
: : : type of tortoise is from? I have heard they are from
: : : Arizona and on the net I heard they were from Central and
: : : Southern Africa.
: : SORRY I MESSED UP THE FIRST POST. bell's hingebacks are from africa. the males have a very long and thick tail. the males also have a concave plastron, whilst the females plastron is flat.

: My Bells doesn't have a concave plastron but he or she does carry it's tail tucked to the side. Someone told me that males carry them tucked to the side and not out. Now I have been told two different things that tell me my Bells is two exactly opposite sexes!!! I have no idea what to think! Someone said if it is a male the plastron will be caved in enough to be obvoius to tell it is a male. Mine doesn't seem to be caved in at all. What is considered a long, thick tail? I don't have anything to compare it to. Thanks a bunch!!

: If it is a female does that mean she will lay eggs?
