They grow at variable rates, some are 5 years old
and weight a few pounds, others weigh 40 pounds
then, it's hard to say. Probably you shouldn't
have any trouble keeping the tortoise, you can
adapt accomodations as it grows and requires them.
No sense putting a yearling in an outdoor barn
where it'll get "lost" possibly! You can see from
my site the different "set-ups" I've made over the
years as mine has grown, and will continue to make
as he continues to grow.
The problem will come when your 'friend' wants to
have it back, and I promise you, you will be in
love too! If you think you won't you'll find out,
heck draw up a legal document or something.
Who will pay for food/supplies/vet bills etc...
while you "tort sit"? What happens if he doesn't
want it back, or you don't want to give it back,
or you don't want to keep it anymore during the
time you're supposed to. this can be messy!
Convince him to "re-home" it with you, permanently.
