a big problem this time of the year with tortoises is dehydration and low temperatures. You need the temperatures (80 - 100 for sulcatas)to enable metabolism and fluids to flush the waste that is a byproduct of that metabolism. Sulcatas are bad this way because they a desert type tortoises. That is their renal system is very efficient. They retain as much water as they can during harsh times. What this seems to lead to is Bladder stones. Bladder stones will also cause paralysis of the hind limbs. (but usually not the front). When you soak it does it pass urates (the white stuff)? If they are present and not chunky but creamy that is probably not your problem. With you also being in the NY area you should not have any trouble finding a good vet. (Marissa????)
