: G. p. pardalis is said to be limited to South & southwestern Africa but there may just be a better food source there and the pattern could just be the result of a isolated gene pool. Before I get in over my head let me suggest you buy one of the many good books out there and/or email the Tortoise Trust, they may give more info.
