Hi Ayala,

First off, just a piece of important advice, tortoise pellets as part of the diet is not really recommended or good. The ONLY pellets that even have an acceptable level of protein (%) for an herbivorous tortoise like a sulcata is Pretty Pets brand Tortoise Food. And even that should only be a bit now and again...not nearly as a main staple or regular additive to the diet. If you are feeding dark, leafy greens, grasses, clovers, you should use that alone. Check out my sulcata care sheet below on the Hatchling Haven website for more info.

About the skin, it is normal for the sulcata to have skin on the neck and head flake a bit, just dry skin really. What you can do is get some natural moisturizer (the type from the health food stores - all natural ingredients with no perfume or dyes...and especially no petrolatum or petroleum...) and rub a bit into the head and neck carefully avoiding the eyes...you can do this twice a month and I'm sure you will see a difference.

Write me personally if you still have questions. Good luck!
