Elongates are fighting

The smaller one keeps bobbing his head up and down when he's sees the bigger one. Then he rams his shell into him. Then the big one turns around and they start fighting. Do I need to seperate them? I'm not sure if its stressing them out or not. They have been kept together for about 3 years now.
I'm having trouble finding suitable bedding for them. The smaller one tries to eat everything. He'll even try to eat rocks. Is there a certain bedding that would be edible and suitable for elongates?
