EJ, I do not a actually give my Herman's Tortoise beans---these are immature green beans
that are mostly just green--any actual bean in the
pod is very immature. I sort out the white bean
from the "mush" and mix the remaining green portion with copped romaine, escarol, and other
greens. I live in country...have constant access
to clover and dandelions from the yard which I wash and also chop into the mixture.
I have read that gerainimum leaves are good food--but I have not had the nerve to try them. I have
lots of them in yard and could easily winter a few plants if you thought that was a good idea.
I always have greens of various types in my frig and have tried to buy only those that are compatible with my tortoise and my husband. I
never feed iceberg.
Treat foods for my tortoise are non-existent at this point--she has no interest in any native fruits or apples or any thing. I am attempting
some squash again although previous attempts were
a waste of energy.
I grat or chop everything--tortoise is a pound and a half but still seems small so I am afraid it might choke or something because when she does
eat -- she eats in a frenzy.
I have never offered any animal protein of any type but I will be on the look out for an earth worm or two. (YUCK!)
Thank you for responding.
Linda
