: I need some help. We adopted a 6 year tortise just a few days before it went into hibernation and I am
: worried about it. It will draw up into its shell when I check it, or more around it light is shining on
: it. Is it really in hibernation or am I slowly starving it to death? I
: have been worried about this. It is in a box in a room without heat so it is between the 40's to 50
: at night, and not much warmer during the day. What temperature do they need to go into hibernation?
: are they supposed to move around. I worry that I will kill the poor thing. Help!!!!
:: As long as it was healthy before it went into hibernation it should be fine until at least February. The temps sound fine for a CDT, I just assumed that's what you meant by desert tortoise. What area do you live in and how do you plan on housing him once he's awake? Where did you adopt him from? I check mine every couple weeks. They are also kept in boxes in a room with your same temps. Mine don't even open their eyes when I check them either. Rachel
