This is a cool post because I started with lizards and snakes and made the same assumption.
Wrong.
If too much moisture is provided the eggs will absourb too much and crack or explode. (that's what happened when I implemented my assumption)
Use a ratio of 1:3 by weight water to sand. (Better too dry than too moist) To where the sand just barely holds its shape. Adding a cup of water standing in the incubator will not hurt.
