That's six WEEKS! Three treatments is three treatments; times them by two weeks apart each time, means six WEEKS has gone by. Yes, six treatments would definitely be way too much.
WHich book do you use? I use Dr. Frye's Reptile Clinician's Handbook, and I believe it give you a range to choose from from 25mg/kg to 50mg/kg. That can be confusing in a way, but I think it just shows how tolerant they are of a range of concentrations. Unless of course you have a tort that looks weak, in which case the vet should advise you on which concentration is best.
I don't know if this works for every tortoise species so easily, but with my Russians, I put an old shirt on my lap and wedge the tort in between my legs. I use a speculum to tease their beaks and try to pry them open. This never works, but it wears them out a little, and then they eventually have to take a big breath to take in needed oxygen. That's when they open their beaks a little for a half sec, and I get the speculum in there quickly, but carefully (don't want to hurt their little tongues after all).
Once the spec is in, I hold it there and put in a CURVED metal dosing needle attached to a monoeject plunger with panacur paste inside.
THis whole thing might seem a little mean, but there aren't too many ways to do this without a fight. I tried putting the paste in the food, but all they did was eat a bite, and run right through the food, getting the rest of the medicine on their plastrons.
Hope this helps.
