In Reply to: Sulcata only eats store bought produce!!! posted by Derek on June 19, 2001 at 01:32:01:
When I first put my sulcata outside in his pen, he waited around for me to feed him the store bought stuff... He gradually started to show more interest in grazing and now grazes like crazy (although he still loves his "treats" and would pick them over grass). During the transition from veggies to grasses, I continued to give him small bites of the store bought stuff a couple of times a day. I didn't put them in a dish, I just scattered a few pieces around in the grass. He'd walk around looking for them and kinda for the first time start looking at what's on the ground and started tasting things (mostly in hope that it was his treat). Now days, he's a hard shelled grazing machine....

My question is will a tortoise get spoiled on the store bought produce and not eat the stuff I grow? I put them out in there pin yesterday and they would not touch the St. Augustine grass. So I gave them some left over produce I had for them and they ate it all up. Should I starve them and make the eat the stuff that's growing in their cage or what. I need some advice. Sorry this is so long but any help is appreciated.
: Thanks,
