: I got pretty good at palpating my female California desert tortoise for eggs. I have tried doing this with my 80 pound female sulcata, without any luck. Is it me (i.e. I don't know what I am feeling), or is it tough to do even for pro's. This would be the 1st time she is laying, and I'd like to find out if she has eggs (short of getting her x-rayed). Any suggestions? Thanks.
Hi Peter,
If you have palpitated your DT, them you know what your doing with a Sulcata. The difference is, that big of a tort could snap your fingers with out trying should she decide to pull her legs in fast.
I haven't ever tried this with a tortoise, only box turtles- probably a big difference. Perhaps others will jump in?
Be careful and good luck.
Take care,
tcc
