Jesse, Russians are one of those tortoises that are an exception to the concavity rule. Males do not have concave plastrons but they have exceptionally long tails at that size. The tail will wrap past the knee of the tortoise when it is withdrawn if it is a male.

: Hello.
: I bought a Russian tortoise a few months ago. It has a carapace of 4.5 in. and a plastron of 4 in. I was wondering if anyone knows the best way (or ways) to tell the sex of my tortoise. I imedietly thought it was a girl cause it didn't have a concaved plastron like in other chelonians. I didn't know if torts were the same. Thank you for your help. Jesse~
