Another consideration might be space and activity. My little testbed sulcata is going on 3 years old and is 5 inches long. I keep him hot and feed him daily. He is very active. I even think every now and then he is growing too slow but I figure he is going to grow at what ever rate and it doesn't really matter.
: Hi, I saw your post the first time and this time,
: and don't really know what to tell you, but I hate
: to see that nobody says anything. I'd bet you're
: right, he wasn't a year old when you got him.
: Teddy eats as much as he wants/can then stops, he
: doesn't just keep eating for no reason, so I
: haven't worried about overfeeding him either.
: I don't know why your tortoise is so heavy, but
: apparently there are some other people here
: (I'm thinking of Esther) who have sulcatas that
: have grown "too fast" compared to the desired
: rate. They are indoors most of the time also.
: I try to keep mine outdoors as much as possible
: and of course this has been a long winter for
: the southeast. But when he's outside he literally
: walks ACRES and ACRES in a day! Unbelieveable,
: just a non-stop walker/explorer/browser/cruiser.
: In the house, he's in every room, behind the
: couches/beds/pianos, back around the living room etc...ever walking.
