It's a subject that has been debated many times here!
Geochelone sulcata are (or rather were)more commonly known as the African spurred tortoise(no thigh or thighed). Although many do refer to it as the spur thighed tortoise and it can get confusing.But I think most of us have learned not to make a big deal of it anymore.
It can be a problem though, when somebody asks for care info on their new spur thighed tortise.
If we don't know which of the two species it really is, the wrong info can be given out.
Apart from that, most of us who don't agree with sulcata being refered to as spur thighed torts, have learned to grit our teeth and go with the flow!
