If you soak the commercial tortoise food in warm
water for a minute, then drain off all the water,
it's very appealing. I have a small mixer that I
use only to blend up foods I want Teddy to have but
he may have picked around out of his bowl and added
them to the commercial food, it's pretty difficult
to avoid eating it then, also a good way to add
calcium, scrape some cuttlebone onto the food and
mix it. I don't use this much anymore, but did when
he was smaller. Remove all food daily and replace
with fresh food. I keep his greens in the cool
side, they are dry at the end of the day, but
not too quickly. He doesn't eat much after lunch
anyways, more of a late morning eater.
Poop color depends on diet, should be green, like
grass/collards and it's BIG compared to the torotise,
like my little finger for Teddy, and like a St. Bernard
for an adult Sulcata! LOL
There may be a bit of white urates with it, Teddy
urinates clear fluid (a lot too compared to size)
but this varies a bit depending on if he's outside
all day grazing or inside all day lounging.
I never wanted him to use the bathroom in his
water while soaking and he never has, sometimes he'd
pee while soaking, but that was usually when he
was outside in the summer.
I used to cut things up to bite size, but now
I just put the leave sized things in his cage,
and he works on them himself. He tears up the
yard so I figure he can eat by himself!
Tortosie poop smells so you should be able
to tell if he's gone in his cage somewhere. I mean
it smells enough that you'll know if if you go
"sniffing" for it, not like a giant cow turd
in the house or something at this size.
