Ok, the baby (5 months) has been here for 5 days now. I have soaked him 3 times and have yet to see that he has gone to the bathroom. I can't tell if he has gone in his enclosure because he is on CareFresh. To be quite honest, I don't even know what color/size I am looking for. Also, I am pretty sure he is eating, but I can't tell how well. How much should he be eating? Does everything have to be chopped very finely or can he chomp it up ok? I can't tell how much he is eating because the stuff ends up drying up in the heat over the course of the day. I've been leaving the dry stuff in there also and adding fresh leafy stuff daily. He does crawl through his water dish and I have seen him drink. I've also seen him eat, but it is agonizing. It seems like such a struggle for him. I know I'm not supposed to feed him the canned tortoise food from the pet stores, but I had bought one can just to have on hand. I broke down and put a little bit out for him today and he was all over it. He only ate a few mouthfuls, but compared to how I have seen him eat other times, he was enjoying it. If I mix some of that stuff with his hay and greens do you think he will eat it better? Am I overly concerned? Am I smothering him? The only thing I have to compare him to are my red-eared sliders and they are death and destruction personified when it comes to eating. They are also plump. The tort seems kind of papery (I don't know if that is the exact word I was looking for). He is quite active and generally trashes his food bowl, water bowl, and flower pot cave. And last, he has quadrupled in cuteness.
