: I really do not think growth rate has anything to do with color, IMO.
: I'm convinced it's a sunshine thing.
: Most UK cb or captive raised ones, that I've seen personally are all dark.
: Only ones which have been imported at a later stage of life, ~3-4yrs upwards, seem to have the lighter color.
: As I'm not too sure about the USA states, regarding similar weather conditions to the UK, would anyone out there car to comment on your Sulcata.

: : Not EJ, just me.
: : I don't know what causes some sulcatas to be so much darker, possibly growth spurts, the new growth turns light at some point.
: :
: : : 1.IYO,to what do you attribute the dark coloration to?
: : : Lack of sunshine or some other influence?
: : My sulcata are outdoors year round in Hawaii and now in Aizona. Plenty of sunshine, the male has dark growth and had a huge growth spurt. The female is much lighter and growing slowly.
: : The baby has dark growth but not too much.
: : My daughter has a friend with an 8" sulcata, housed indoors, not outdoors much at all.
: : Zero dark growth, none at all!
: : : 2.IYO,could the size of your indoor pen have dictated his present size?
: : : Would he possibley be larger had he been given the opportunity to roam a garden?

: : Hoku, my smallest sulcata one and a half years and just over 3" has been outdoors most of his life. Indoors at night. His hatchling enclosure was 12'x10' or there abouts.Out roaming the garden didn't make him grow much!
