Could it be genetics, heredity? Maybe a good question to ask is of those that have seen the parents of their tortoise, is what was the coloring of the parents and does your tortoise have the same coloring. If I remember right all the adult tortoises that the breeder I bought mine from were light colored and Annie is light too.
