In Reply to: Terry, glad you mentioned this, I couldn't figure it either... posted by Niki on October 30, 2000 at 18:41:22:
Hi Niki,
I posted to the Tortoise Trust list re this post.
The replies I got mentioned that the Baytril would treat everything on the tortoise, in the tortoise, but not the worms. No use as a dewormer. The only thing I can think of is that the tortoise recieved the wrong drug accidently and in the wrong dose.
While Panacur has a resonably safe margin, I doubt Baytril does.
I know the owner is going through a terrible time right now, but thought I should mention that Baytril is an antibiotic not a dewormer, so that the mistake isn't repeated.
The Baytril may not be the reason for the death, the necropsy will reveal more.
To the person who lost the beautiful tortoise, please understand that we all know how heartbreaking this is for you.
I posted to two Tortoise lists regarding your post and many asked me to tell you that their thoughts are with you. I lost one little Russian this year and a C. galbinifrons, two recent WC imports already very ill when I got them
Their deaths absolutely devastated me. I balled my eyes out to, something I have not done for years.
So my deepest sympathy goes out to you.
Terry.
