Hi, the following link (below) might help you out quite a bit. Items like grocery store foods aren't healthy, and you'll find that if you spend a little time doing research on wild plants, etc. that you will also save a lot of money.

Russian tortosies in the wild spend about 9 months of the year underground, so periods of inactivity aren't too much to worry about if the tortosie seems to be hiding.

Also, if this is a recent purchase, it is of paramount importance that this tortoise see a vet for a fecal flotation and direct smear to diagnose and treat for parasitic infestation (worms) which all imported tortoises carry, and which can be fatal if left untreated.

What type of an enclosrue is this tortosie living in? They do very well outdoors, and are the happiest that way.
